After the hiss comment, I went and checked it on my touch. Very very minor hiss. This was only noticed at max volume. However, wasn't a problem with most songs at max volume. You should also note that it's an awful health decision to max out on most occassions.
You want sleek design then the touch is a definite choice. Durability - zune. The zune doesnt make use of the wifi effectively enough for me to buy it. Ugly bugger too. Typing from touch now...

TW...I think you have this backwards. You cannot upgrade the flash memory in the iPod Touch. It is soldered on the board. Heck, even the battery is soldered on. Apple no longer uses a plug to connect the battery, making it much more difficult to change the battery....but I guess most folks won't do that anyway.

In regards to the Zune, it is a snap (pretty much) to upgrade the HD to an 80GB. I did it in about 1 hour as I am very slow and methodical..

Which looks better. Neither or both. I like the Zune's basic brick-like-no-nonsense style. I especially like the heavy duty rubberized material that makes the Zune so very difficult to scratch up. Even the screen is hard to scratch.

The iPod Touch is well built and has a very sleek look to it. It is very sweet, but remember this iPod had an extra year to be developed.

The ONE thing that was a deal breaker for me in regards to the iPod Touch (and I have test three of them....to the chagrin of my local Best Buy) is that the Touch produces an extremely high amount of HISS.

I tested the iPod Touch, iPod Classic, iPod Photo and the Zune. All but the Touch were dead silent with the volume maxed out and nothing playing. The Touched hissed like a snake. I tested all four units with the Apple buds, Zune buds, and a pair of Senheiser buds. ALL produced the HISS with the Touch.

I will wait for the next generation of iPod Touch or at least until the problem has been eliminated by a firmware update.

Michael: iPod touch has 8 hours more battery life than the Zune. And as it now uses flash memory it will be far more robust than the Zune since there are no moving parts (ie hard-disk) to break.

Dungalo: What has Taiwan got to do with anything? There are good and bad quality manufacturers of goods in every country. Making an assumption that everything that comes out of one country is bad is plain stupid.

michael first of all the zune came out long after the ipod. if it had come out before than it wouldnt have wifi either, with that out of the way i have to say the ipod touch wins hands down. its not something you can debate, the ipod touch has wifi‚ an internet browser, touch screen, built in music store, coverflow, superior picture quality, a scratch free front, youtube, itunes support which means 6 million downloadable songs not to mention videos, its thinner, ipods are durable, and no SANE person can argue the fact that the ipod touch LOOKS FAR BETTER THAN A ZUNE. the only downside is it is only 16gb, BUT its a flash drive and can be upgraded.

DUNGALO
the zune is still the best for me because its so durable and long lasting battery life. you are just waisting your money if you but the i- touch mp3 layer. a while ago i try to have an touch screen device but it never last long, because it's only takes about 3 months and its locked up.no doubt, but imagine what happen to the i- phone, suddenly they drop their prices because nobody wants to buy for it. still the best of the best for me is the zune. IPOD SUCKS MADE IN TAIWAN INSIDE ask me why because i try to break my ipod nano b4.

the zune is holding down the #1 spot for me. i am in the military and deploying to various places the zune is durable and long lasting on the battery. i have taken my zune all over so far and as for my friends that have the ipod they rather have the zune instead. in addition, in high temperatures areas the zune wins hand down, my friend's ipod locked up a lot in the heat. on the other hand, since it took ipod 2 generations to go wifi and the zune only 1. the next zune will no doubt win again, especially if they come out with an usb cable to connect zune to zune to share movies.

The zune has no chance at all, it hasn't even released in Astralia yet and it has already been completly knocked down by the new iPod Touch. The Zune has no chance of chipping into the iPod market for obvious reasons.

Yo fool. That's what the 160 GB iPod classic is for.

But if you go with the Touch, you get to watch YouTube videos, surf web sites, and buy any one of 6 million tunes over a wifi network with but a single touch.

What can the Zune's wifi do, btw?
