The success of the iPhone is now being duplicated by the iPod Touch due to a shift in Apple strategy, now the iPod Touch is being marketed as the new gaming platform, something almost unthinkable on Apple part, which has been reluctant to games on their mac platform.

The new strategy will put Apple in the same league of Nintendo and Sony and if the momentum live up to its hype the iPod Touch will be the next cash cow for Apple, that will be profiting from the sale of the iPod Touch itself and the percent Apple get in every application sold at the AppStore.

Traditional game developers are showing their future iPhone and iPod Touch games and heavy hitter like ID are taking seriously the iPhone-iPod Touch as a gaming platform, even Apple has featured an advertising about iPod Touch and Games, something that we could consider impossible years ago, but we are still missing the Hardcore Games, RPG games that take the iPod Touch to a different rank, not just a casual game, but famous games adapted to the iPod Touch.

The ancient Disney games will help sell more iPhone-iPod Touch, but M rated games will help Apple positions their new gaming platform as a viable development endeavour, hardcore game developers will need Apple bless, because in the not sot far and away past, Apple has been in the opposite side when it comes to violence and mature audience based games for the mac, let’s hope this time around something has changed at Apple that let us enjoy our shiny new gaming iPod.

There’s a big opportunity for Apple to take on Nintendo and Sony or take the mobile gaming market by storm if hardcore games turn its attention to the nascent platform and if Apple helps reducing the price for the iPod Touch to make it even more attractive to a younger audience, then it will be the moment when Nintendo and Sony will have to rethink its strategy, Apple did the same in the mobile phone segment, it came later to the party and then ended up being the one to follow, letting other play catch up.
