Realtime Location on your iPhone with Navman Wireless

One GPS application that is becoming increasingly important in the business environment involves tracking the location of all vehicles in a corporate fleet for mapping and reporting purposes. Company cars, vans, trucks, buses, bulldozers, cranes and other types of vehicles can now be outfitted with GPS tracking units that capture location data every few seconds and transmit it to back-office software for real-time map display and in-depth performance analysis.

Now Navman Wireless has released a free iPhone app that makes real-time vehicle location maps and a variety of other fleet data available on the go from all iPhone models as well as the Apple iPad. It is the first iPhone application to be offered by a global fleet tracking provider.

With Navman Wireless MobileAVL2 for the iPhone, dispatchers, managers and company executives can:

View the real-time location of single vehicles or the entire fleet on one map
Send and receive messages to/from vehicles’ mobile communication devices
Route vehicles to their next destination
See a vehicle’s recent driving route replayed on a map
View a list of stop times, idle times and other recent activity by vehicle

The new app complements the company’s OnlineAVL2 fleet tracking and management platform, which is used by corporate fleet managers on five continents to help reduce fuel usage, trim other operating costs, improve fleet productivity and maximize customer service. In addition to displaying real-time location of the entire fleet or vehicle groups on a single screen, the platform’s comprehensive reporting suite identifies problems such as excessive idling, inaccurate timesheets, unauthorized stops and personal vehicle use.

“Real-time vehicle tracking is an essential component of any fleet tracking system. Managers frequently need up-to-the-minute information to troubleshoot, communicate with people in the field or simply see that operations are running smoothly,” said Paresh Nagda, Navman Wireless CTO. “With our new iPhone application, those capabilities are in your pocket regardless of where you happen to be. It’s a valuable way to maintain oversight and quality control when you’re away from your computer.”

“OnlineAVL2 is saving 2.2 million gallons of fuel for our customers every month, and that increases every time we add a new vehicle to our installed base,” said Renaat Ver Eecke, VP and General Manager of Navman Wireless North America. “Our new iPhone app is another step in helping fleets around the world operate efficiently, cost-effectively and sustainably.”

Navman Wireless MobileAVL2 for the iPhone is available immediately from the iTunes App Store at http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/onlineavl2/id373003344?mt=8.

Navman Wireless’ OnlineAVL2 fleet tracking and management platform includes the company’s OnlineAVL2 software, Qube in-vehicle tracking device, and a choice of mobile communication devices enabling easy and low-cost two-way message exchange as well as turn-by-turn GPS navigation. The software is delivered under the Software-as-a-Service model, with no need for major in-house software installation or maintenance.
