Napster today announced the launch of the world’s largest and most comprehensive MP3 store at www.napster.com/store.

Napster’s download store is more than 50% larger than any other MP3 store and boasts not only the largest major label MP3 catalog in the industry, but also the largest library of independent music available anywhere. All Napster download sales in the U.S. will now be in the user-friendly, DRM-free MP3 format, which is compatible with virtually any MP3 player or music phone including the iPod and the iPhone. Napster is the first music subscription service featuring major label content to offer 100% of its catalog in the MP3 format for download sales.

“Music fans have spoken and it’s clear they need the convenience, ease of use and broad interoperability of the DRM-free MP3 format, and they want to be able to find both major label artists and independent music all in one place. Napster is delighted to deliver all of this and more with the world’s largest MP3 catalog,” said Napster’s Chairman and CEO Chris Gorog. “Our new MP3 store, together with our award-winning ‘all you can eat’ music subscription service, provides the most comprehensive and exciting music experience available. Virtually any portable device in the world can now be used to enjoy tracks purchased at Napster, which is an important breakthrough for our company.”

Pricing for download sales will remain at 99 cents for single MP3 tracks and $9.95 for most MP3 albums, Napster confirmed. The vast majority of the MP3 catalog, including all major label content, is available at a high-quality 256kbps bitrate, and downloaded tracks include high-resolution album art. Consumers can visit and browse the download store with no obligation or commitment, and can also choose to subscribe to Napster’s on-demand streaming service, which is web-based and can be accessed from any Internet-connected computer without downloading software.

“Our goal is to enrich your life with music, in ways that are personalized to you,” said Chief Operating Officer Christopher Allen. “Napster now offers a truly complete and synergistic digital music destination, where music lovers can not only discover and listen to music, but also buy and own everything they want in MP3 format, which works on any music player. The combination offers consumers the best of both worlds.”

Napster gives music fans the freedom of choice to discover, experience, and buy music on their own terms. With its web-based, open, innovative products and services, Napster gives consumers the ability to enjoy music across their desktop, living room, portable music player, and mobile phone.

“Developing online music services into true go-to consumer music destinations depends in large part on reducing hurdles to adoption,” said Susan Kevorkian, IDC’s Consumer Markets program director, “By offering millions of high quality, MP3-encoded DRM-free tracks from all of the major labels as well as independents, this service is well-positioned to appeal to the broad spectrum of music lovers, including iPod and iPhone owners.”

The ipod and the iphone have proven to be the most sucessful duo, the ipod has taken the portable music industry by storm and now the iPhone is doing the same thing for the mobile industry, but Apple is not cashing or taking advantages totally in the marketing arena.

Here is the point:
The marketing behind the ipod was and is still excellent, trendsetting, joyful and has done its job, put the ipod everywhere in an entertainming manner, everybody enjoys those well done ads, the music, the images, the strategy worked for the ipod. With the iphone, Apple has turned to the other side, showing what to do with your newly iphone. While this is a direct to your brain marketing, it is totally different from the ipod one.

Good, the ipod and the iphone have received thousand of free TV exposure, people showing their favorite mp3 or smartphone to everybody and this represents a bigger than expected and unpaid marketing campaign.

But hey, Where is the Yanqui’s based iPod or iPhone? Or the David Ortiz fully loaded iPod?

And there is where Apple is still sleeping, there is a bigger and more fanatic audience out there that is willing to have a Baseball or Basketball iPod, loaded with the most important moments of their favorite team. It won’t be any difficult for Apple to partner with the MLB or other Sport Association in USA or in any other country. Imagine a Manchester United iPd, damn, it will even give more and more exposure to the ipod, because the Manchester fanatics really love everything about their team. Apple has the RED Product iPod, why not put the Sox at the end and give us a piece of collection?

It is time for Apple to come to the Social and sport is one of the most social event in the country with millions of fans worldwide that buy T-shirts, caps, bats, watches, mugs and everything related to their team, imagine the potentials and advantages the will and have if it is marketed toward this sea of ready to spend people.

Apple is in talks some of the major music labels over a deal that would allow next-generation iPhone owners to purchase music tracks directly from the handset over cellular wireless networks, according to the New York Times.

Owners of the company’s first-generation iPhone can already accomplish this via a mobile version of the iTunes Store that resides on the handset, but they must be connected to the Internet via a high-speed WiFi connection to do so.

The arrival of faster 3G cellular network access alongside the next iPhone, widely expected for an announcement during the second week of June at Apple’s developers conference, would make it more “technically feasible” for Apple to offer the over-the-air route, the Times notes.

However, the paper reports that the music labels are holding their hand out, demanding that in return they be paid more than the 70 cent wholesale price of songs sold over traditional Internet lines.

This week we learned about the new countries where the iphone will be sold making the future even more interesting for the iphone. Apple target for the iphone is 10 million by the end of 2008, so far Apple has sold almost 6 million of them, but with the new countries deployment the 10 million mark will be easier to acchieve and with the 3G version on the pipeline this mark can even be passed. Apple is revealing its strategy day by day, doing so gives Apple more media covering.

This week a new patent was granted to Apple that provides centralized/location based processing for the iphone. The location based system could possibly be used to push customised info to the Apple iPhone passing by particular business fronts, maps, weather, city information in an airport, and flight schedules for an example. An Apple iPhone user would only need to log into the WiFi network on their iPhone handset in order to receive local information pushed to their iPhone.

Imaging how this can be customized to serve business specific need that better suit your corporation, plus Exchange, Push Email and everything in between make the iphone look more business oriented than we thought.

So, going to a Starbuck, Barnes and Noble or just order your meal at the corner restaurant from your own iphone can be a good thing, just remember when you can order at some restaurans using your Newton or go to your local Museum and listen Picture-Newton information as you pass by. Apple is just polishing those old tricks.

Since the introduction of the Apple iPhone on January the 9th, the world has gone touch pad crazy, touch pad technology is the way of the future and many companies have heard the call and made their own touch pad phones in direct competition with the iPod. Now is touchscreen, the iPhone has its own mobile category (The iPhone Killer), almost all manufacturers realize that if they want to sell their smartphones they should label them as “iphone killer”, it is not enough to have a full featured smartphone if is not a iphone killer and everyday you see how desperate they are just adding touchscreen to make their devices look like an iphone instead of adding new features.

Check the list and make your bets, I believe that the only smartphone that will push down the iphone is another iphone.

1. Samsung F700

Coming in at Number 1 is the Samsung F700 ultra slim phone, answering the call early Samsung have come up with a splendid touch pad phone. Main features of the phone include a 5 megapixel camera, touch pad technology, impressive downloads speeds of up to 7.2 Mbps and a cool slide out QWERTY Keyboard, which is something the iPhone is lacking. With their first deluge into touch pad phones Samsung seem to have hit a home run straight of the bat.

2. LG KE850 | Prada

The next touchphone coming in at a close Second is the LG KE850, this touch phone has actually been around for quite some time and is a smash hit in South Korea. It is widely believed amongst industry experts Apple based there design model around this phone. The phone features a 3-inch LCD touch screen display and 2 megapixel camera. The phone will be about $750. Any maybe available in Europe and America soon.

3. Nokia Aeon Concept Phone

At Number Three we see the Nokia Aeon Concept Phone. This phone is just a concept phone and not currently available to the consumer, it has been around for a very long time. Obviously Nokia was onto to touch phone technology from the very early stages, their long term research and studying into the technology, may see them if not in the form of the Aeon bring out a very advanced touch phone some time soon that will be available to consumers. If that happens you could probably elevated Nokia to Number Two iPhone competitor on this list.

4. Neonode N2 TouchScreen

Surprisingly at Number Four is unknown Swedish phone the Neonode N2 TouchScreen. This awesome little phone made it’s debut at 3GSM and plans to take it right up to the iPhone in a big way. Cool features include it’s size factor, it is alot smaller than other touchscreen phones which should make it easier to carry around than most other touch phones and also it features an interesting gesture controlled screen and runs off of an open source platform.

5. OpenMoko Neo1973

The OpenMoko Neo1973 has been dubbed the iPhone killer and it is hard to disagree it has some awesome features, such as a large, touch-sensitive VGA display, GPRS data, Bluetooth, 128MB RAM, AGPS (Assisted GPS), and 64MB of Flash. The best thing about this phone is that it is a open source project and anyone can contribute to making it into a great phone.

6. Asus Aura Concept Phone

At Six is another concept phone the Asus Aura Concept Phone. ASUS is mostly known for making computer parts and motherboards, however over the past year or so ASUS have tried there hand at making Cell Phones and their not doing to bad a job of it either. ASUS’s strategy is to make as many phones as possible in the hope that one will become a hit, there is not a day that goes by without ASUS releasing a new phone. This month they responded to iPhones call and made the Asus Aura Touch screen Phone, like the Samsung F700 this phone has a QWERTY keypad, features a 2-megapixel camera, 3.9-inch touch screen display and is only 9mm thick. Everyone better watch out for these guys they are a massive manufacturer and they are starting to make their mark in the cell phone industry, specially in countries outside of the US.

7. FIC-GTA001

The Linux based FIC-GTA001 smartphone fights it way to the Number 7 spot and actually comes bundled with a SDK (Software Development Kit). Sporting a 2.8-inch VGA display and
having nifty features like; multi-touch sensor recognition, GSM, GPS and MP3 playback capabilities, its no mystery why we think the phone is cool! The FIC-GTA001 draws it juice from a Samsung ARM9-based processor and the two finger scrolling is reminiscent of the Macbook.

8. BenQ-Siemens Black Box Concept Phone

Big on design but lacking in features, the BenQ-Siemens Black Box Concept Phone comes in at Number Eight. This phone is just a concept phone. BenQ is trying to make a impact in Asia cell phone market. This phones lacks all the cool functions the above phones have and just really has a nice design and big touch screen. Apple has nothing to worry about with this one.

9. Meizu M8

At Nine is the Chinese only Meizu M8 which is also known as the miniOne. It’s claim to fame and the reason why is it so well known in the tech world is because it is believed that this company knocked off the iPhones design. They plan to confuse the Chinese market and cash in big time by selling the phone on the cheap in China, which is just wrong, really wrong.

10. Sagem WA 3050

We searched everywhere but couldn’t find a tenth touch phone. There is sure to be another one soon, any help would be appreciated. We just couldn’t hold off on posting this awesome article any longer .

So thats it. This is only just the beginning of the Touchpad Phone revolution. The companies above have all heard the call and acted fast on this new phenomena. LG, Apple and Samsung in particular are in good positions to capitalize on early on sales of touch phones and establish themselves. Don’t expect Sony, Nokia or Motorola to stay on the side lines for too long, they will come out with their own touchpad phones soon no doubt. 2007 is looking like the “Year Of The Touch Pad Phone!”

Touchphone technology is not new, it has be evolving for several years. Believe it or not Micorsoft were the first makers of a touchpad phone, back in the year 2000 they made the Sagem WA 3050.

11. Blackberry Bold

The Blackberry Bold is an sleek designed full featured smartphone that provides everything that corporate users will need while on the road, it has a ultra powerfull processor, georgeous display, full qwerty keyboard and works on 3G networks, something that all iphone users are expecting in the next iPhone OS 2.0. While the Bold’s design is similar to the iphone it main target remain at corporations.

12. Blackberry Thunder (Touchscreen smartphone)

The Blackberry Thunder will be launch in Q3 of this year, it is a full touchscreen Blackberry with no slide out keyboard. It comes with just 4 physical keys for Send/End, the Menu key and the Back key. There is not much information available, but it is rumoured to be a CDMA EV-DO device with a 4G implementation.

It is the real Blackberry threat to the iPhone and it will come with a more powerfull processor than the Bold and all the multimedia features and corporate stuff that RIM supplies.

13. Nokia N95

When the iPhone was launched it was not intended to be a corporate smartphone from day one and this keeps RIM happier, while the iPhone took marketshare from everybody it can’t touch the Blackberry, because they both were in different leagues, now that the future for the iPhone is set and it includes direct marketing to corporations, the same RIM market. RIM has been moving desperately creating and launching devices that put a stop to the Apple intentions.

It’s going to be a blood battle and Apple is doing everything right to take a big chunk of corporate market from RIM (the corporate king is without a doubt the Blackberry), but Apple has been doing its homeworks and you would see the penetration it will gets with the iphone. I was expecting a different, more cleaned and elegant Blackberry, RIM can’t compete with the Bold with the iPhone in form factor, it gets knock out. They need to create a different device, forget about corporate, innovate around your corporate clients’ needs and give them a more compelling experience. That is the reason the iPhone is what it is, because Apple knows how to take risks.

ooVoo, an innovator in the way people communicate online, today announced the launch of a Mac version of its high quality video chat solution. The ooVoo Mac release is one of the most advanced and feature rich video communication programs available to Mac users and allows people to connect with both Mac and PC users anywhere in the world for free. The ooVoo software can be downloaded from www.ooVoo.com today.

ooVoo, a recent winner of the CNET Webware 100 Award, is changing the way friends, family and co-workers communicate online in a more meaningful way. Mac users will now be able to connect face-to-face with up to six people at once regardless of whether they are Mac or PC users. ooVoo Mac’s easy-to-use features include the ability to send and receive video messages, exchange files and text chat messages as well as import contacts from other programs.

“We have worked hard to ensure the Mac version of ooVoo offers this valuable part of our customer base one of the most dynamic video experiences available today,” said Philippe Schwartz, CEO of ooVoo. “As the highest quality cross platform Mac and PC video chat solution, we look forward to enabling more conversations between Mac and PC users across the globe, and breaking down the traditional barriers of video communication.”

Unlike instant messaging (IM) and voice over internet protocol (VoIP) solutions that have incorporated video as an add-on feature, ooVoo was developed with video at its core delivering a richer communication experience with high quality video and reduced video delay, clear audio and better lip synchronization. ooVoo’s high quality multi-party video chat, with a resolution of 320 x 240 at up to 15 frames per second, can be experienced with a standard broadband internet connection and requires only 128 Kbps (up and down) of throughput, less than half required by competitors for a one to one video chat.

The launch of the ooVoo Mac version is a milestone in the company’s ongoing Mac development program, which will see further announcements in the coming months. Full system requirements for this software version include:

· Power Mac – G5 with 1Ghz or Intel Mac with 256MB of RAM
· 20MB Hard disk space
· Mac compatible Webcam and Headset
· Broadband connection
· Tiger, Leopard (OSX 10.4 and up)

Currently friends, families and co-workers are using ooVoo to communicate face-to-face between more than 200 countries worldwide, with more the 3.5 million ooVoo video chat sessions completed each month on average. To experience ooVoo for yourself, visit www.ooVoo.com.
