PC World has today announced the launch of its new iPad Media Streaming service. Designed in collaboration with Livedrive, the iPad Media Streaming service allows iPad owners to store 100GB of media and data online. This can then be accessed and played through live streaming via a 3G or Wi-Fi network, all for the small cost of just £39.99 per year.

The launch of the service comes hot on the heels of the hugely successful Meet iPad service. Available as a consultation in-store, the service has seen thousands of iPad owners booking one to one consultations with Apple trained expert store staff to get expert advice on setting up and using the iPad to its fullest capability.

Available to buy at PC World stores throughout the UK, the iPad Media Streaming service lets owners take their iPads to a whole new level. The iPad Media Streaming service simply lets you back up the majority of your media and data files from your PC or Mac online and then lets you access them remotely through your iPad, effectively increasing its hard drive by a further 100GB.

This incredible service allows you to live stream your music, videos and photos direct from your online storage through this service and its software. Additionally you can even stream music, videos and photos from multiple PCs and Macs to your iPad over your home network, so you can enjoy your media from any computer in any room in your home.

iPad is great for email and web browsing, but it gets really exciting when you can play back your music collection, view your photos and even watch videos or movies! The only challenge is that you can’t get all of your existing media (music, video, documents etc) onto your iPad; everything has to be accessed through iTunes. The TechGuys’ iPad Media Streaming service solves this by allowing you to enjoy all your media on the iPad – even if the media is not in your iTunes library (3G/WiFi Connection required). And because it all streams from online storage, you can access your entire media library without filling up your iPad’s internal hard-drive!

The iPad Media Streaming service is available at all PC World and Currys stores from today priced £39.99. To find out more about this or other iPad support services visit www.thetechguys.com

Well… I don’t think so, while RIM is reported to be gaining some marketshares away from the iPhone, it is still too soon to declare a winner, this is the second major upgrade for the iPhone while the Blackberry has suffered a dozen or more. It is important to notice that the iPhone that can give RIM some headaches, because is packed with the same or even more business features, those that have helped Blackberry become the king.

Apple has set its sight on the Enterprise and has promised features what will help Apple master this new and complicated market and put some pressure to RIM at the same time.

There is excitement among developers and major corporations are starting to realize that the iPhone is more than another smartphone, it is a platform, some have commited to bring the most compelling suit of applications to meet any business need. IBM, Sun, NetSuite, Salesforce, even Microsoft has been babbling about the possibility of an Office version for the iphone.

Styletap is promising Palm emulation on the iphone, increasing automatically the numbers of business applications available for the device.

So, if we were to declare a winner, there is not better time than the next June 9th, when we will see what Apple has been planning for the iPhone 2.0 and how Blackberry and others response to Apple entrance into the Mobile.

Applications for the iphone and ipod touch are growing like bad grass, faster than you can kill it and every single day you notice new and amazing services, tools and utilities for this new platform. We collected a bunch of them, those that we believe are the most important ones to hang out… In the next part we will add more business related applications. Please notice that some of fthis applications can damage your iphone, a fresh restore could help but act wisely, we are not affiliated with the designers/programmers or vendors of these applications, we only provide this list as an recommendation, we are not receiving any kind of endorsement from their respective owners. We really don’t know them, but appreciate their time.

iPhoneeBooks
Read books using your iPhone! Download books from online repositories, like Project Gutenberg, and enjoy reading them with this nice tool. If you love reading and don’t want to waste your time while waiting for something, just install this little application and read books whenever you have a spare minute. From now on a library of your favorite books will be always at hand.

Voice Notes
Voice Notes allows you to record, play and share voice memos. It offers interactive memo recording using your iPhone’s built-in microphone and speaker. With this application you can easily send and receive voice email, it has native support for AMR. The process of recording is very simple. Must have.

MobileChat
Using a simplistic approach, keeping a unified GUI in mind, and using the most light weight methods for executing tasks, MobileChat is the premier AIM Application for the iPhone. In fact, it’s so light-weight and efficient that it runs just about as well on the EDGE network as it does on any WiFi network!

weDict
If you study foreign languages, read in foreign languages, or just love traveling, you will surely find this small application useful. weDict is a light-weight dictionary for iPhone. It supports StarDict’s dictionaries that are also free and available for many languages.

Lights Off
If you are not in the mood to read books or to chat with your friends, try this one. Lights Off is an absolutely addictive puzzle game for iPhone. SMSD iPhone SMS Delete And Forwarding Application
This application much like Wetool addresses some of the shortcomings of the SMS messaging application on the iPhone. The major features which are included on SMSD which Apple has neglected to add are deletion of individual messages, forwarding of SMS messages to groups of people and a built in character counter. The application is at version 0.09 but apparently seems stable in regards to the advertised features.

Features
Delete individual messages
Different views for incoming and outgoing messages
Templates
Backup all message through mail.
Compose new messages. (Apple got this right.)
Reply to messages. (Well, Apple did not miss this one.)
Forward messages.
Support for concatenated SMS (long SMS).
Send/Forward messages to multiple contacts.
Character counter.
Send Contact Information through message.
To install manually:

Put the extracted zip dir (SMSD.app) in /Applications on iPhone. From v0.09 onwards, you will also have to copy com.amrut.iphone.SMSD.plist to /Library/LaunchDaemons. And last but not the least, dont forget to set executable permissions for SMSD and SMSDNotifier files.

It also gives you an option to save your sms messages to your notepad and the transition effects between switching screens is pretty cool. The download is only available as a pxl file on hackint0sh Now available on Installer. Point Safari at or add Source via Installer at http://app.weiphone.com/installer/. Two downloads are below with the first download having a circular rotation transition between screens and the second having a page flip transition effect. Let Aaron Jang know which transition effect you like better on the poll so maybe you can influence him to incorporate it in his newer release. According to Aaron, he’s got more than 15 different page transitions. Hopefully those will be available on future releases. V0.3.7.1 now available with 17 different user selectable transitions along with a different menu system.

iPass today announced service availability for Windows Mobile 6 devices. Users of the iPass Mobile Office service for enterprises and iPassConnect™ mobility service for individuals can now connect to the Internet via Wi-Fi using their Windows Mobile 6 smartphone and handheld devices. iPass plans to support the Apple iPhone and iPod Touch later this year and intends to support Wi-Fi-enabled Blackberry devices as well.

“The popularity of consumer-driven handheld devices changes the paradigm for enterprise IT by allowing people to be productive using Web-based applications through their own smartphone” said Joel Wachtler, VP of marketing and strategy at iPass. “IT cannot ignore these devices, and instead must ensure that workers can be productive using them and that they don’t create an unreasonable burden for the business through expensive connectivity, poor security, or high support costs. iPass’ mission is to simplify the growing complexity of enterprise mobility, and expanding support to these platforms is a key element of our strategy”

With more than 100,000 business-class hotspots worldwide, (also announced today), iPass Wi-Fi connectivity gives smart phone users a high performance, inexpensive alternative to 2.5G and 3G access provided by cellular providers. For international business travelers, the cost savings can be especially significant when they use Wi-Fi to avoid the high roaming fees mobile operators charge for out-of-country usage. In one recent, well-publicized incident*, a UK-based smartphone user was billed more than $22 thousand dollars by their cellular provider for downloading large data files in Germany.

In addition, the iPass Wi-Fi network can deliver broadband access in places where 3G doesn’t reach. Because 3G networks are normally rolled out first in metropolitan areas, those outside the city must often rely on modem-like 2.5G technology, or may have no cellular data coverage at all. Even in large cities, high-speed coverage isn’t ubiquitous. Tests conducted by industry analyst and wireless benchmarking firm Novarum show that true 3G connections are available only 60-70% of the time in major U.S. urban centers, due to hills, trees and other obstacles to reception. Lastly, 3G performance can degrade rapidly when in-building, and in these cases it may be the local Wi-Fi hotspot or WLAN that provides the only viable Internet access option.

More about iPass Support for Windows Mobile 6
With iPass, both consumer and enterprise users can get one-click access to the world’s leading Wi-Fi hotspot network, covering high-value business locations including hundreds of airports, hotels such as Hyatt, Hilton and Marriott; and retail locations including Starbucks coffeehouses and McDonald’s restaurants. They can also connect easily to home, corporate and 3rd-party wireless networks, with iPass service auto-detecting available Wi-Fi networks in their area and automatically connecting to their bookmarked locations.

Enterprise customers can obtain the following additional benefits:

A single monthly flat rate based on active users in a company, helping customers avoid paying for idle users or having runaway charges from heavy users
No international roaming charges—iPass Wi-Fi locations are available through a global flat rate plan with no additional fees
Support for iPass Mobile Office mobile device management functions that operate over the Internet
Pricing and Availability
iPass support for Windows Mobile 6 is now available. Use of Windows Mobile handhelds in the Mobile Office service is priced at a flat monthly rate for the enterprise based on the number of active users. For individuals in the United States looking for a subscription to the iPassConnect mobility service, pricing information is available at: www.ipassconnect.com.

Sybase iAnywhere announced availability of support for Apple iPhone within its Information Anywhere® Suite. Information Anywhere now enables IT organizations to provide secure delivery of Lotus Domino and Microsoft Exchange enterprise email to iPhone users, in addition to a broad range of other mobile devices. Sybase iAnywhere’s unique approach to providing enterprise email support for the iPhone reduces potential security concerns while still providing a rich user experience utilizing native iPhone applications.

“We’ve had significant demand from our customer base for iPhone support, as companies want to allow the iPhone as an approved device choice for wireless email, along with their other Windows Mobile, Symbian or Palm devices,” said Mark Willnerd, vice president, Sybase iAnywhere. “In addition, we are excited by the recent release of the Apple iPhone SDK. We are currently exploring new possibilities for future product enhancements and additional iPhone support across our entire Information Anywhere Suite mobility platform.”

Key advantages include:
Security: Information Anywhere provides iPhone support without requiring changes to an enterprise’s messaging infrastructure. The outbound connection model adds an additional layer of security. Enterprises no longer need to open inbound communication ports to the messaging infrastructure, all mobile device connections end within the enterprise DMZ. Information Anywhere adds specific features to equip IT with the ability to eliminate security risks with iPhone devices, such as restricting attachments, preventing user access and removing email data from a device. All of these features reduce potential security concerns with iPhone use in the enterprise.

Offline Email Access: Information Anywhere supports the native iPhone client which provides a feature rich and faster user experience than found with browser-based email support. In addition, email is available for offline use.

Contact Data Access: Information Anywhere provides secure access to contact data, including corporate directory and personal contacts.
Multi-device Support: Information Anywhere addresses the extreme demand corporations face to support a variety of mobile devices. Sybase iAnywhere now supports the iPhone, in addition to more than 250 Windows Mobile, Symbian and Palm-based devices.

Broad Enterprise Email Support: Information Anywhere supports both Lotus Domino R6/7/8 and Microsoft Exchange 2000/2003/2007.
“We were glad to be selected as an iPhone beta participant with Sybase iAnywhere. The solution was easy to set up without any adjustment to our backend infrastructure and we were ready to go with our iPhone devices in less than a day,” said Melkon Torosyan, project manager, Comdirect AG. “We are looking forward to deploying the solution because it addresses the needs of the users and the security concerns of our enterprise customers.”

Information Anywhere wireless email support for Apple iPhone will be available by the end of March 2008. For more information, including an iPhone video demo and a request for product alerts, please visit www.sybase.com/iphone.

In a desperate bid to increase use by corporate users, Apple is currently in production to build support for Microsoft Exchange ActiveSync for its iPhone device. Buzz Technologies Inc has today released Email Anywhere, an email platform that has accomplished the Microsoft Active Sync support already. The service allows any corporation to have all their emails loaded onto the Buzz Platform making them instantly available on any remote device including iPhone. The service features will allow IT departments to more easily monitor the devices on a corporate network as well as enforce security in the event of a lost device.

Apple is holding an event dedicated to the iPhone today, and the first major announcement is that this smartphone will soon get support for Microsoft Exchange ActiveSync.

The company hopes this will go a long way toward making the iPhone more accepted by, and useful to, business people. Apple’s long-term goal is to lure companies away from their BlackBerries. Buzz Technologies Inc feels the dedicated iPhone service has limitations mainly that all staff need an iPhone “we have a platform now that runs on anything that connects to the internet” Sean Lee said today. ” this gives our service a scalability that will make it very popular with corporations, the fact that the service is server based also means upgrades etc are instant” he added.

“Apple is building Microsoft Exchange ActiveSync support right into the iPhone,” said Philip Schiller, Apple’s senior vice president of Worldwide Product Marketing. “The iPhone will have out-of-the-box connectivity with Exchange Servers for push email, contacts, and calendars, as well as important security features enterprise customers demand.”

Users will be able to configure the connection between their smartphone and the server on their device, and IT managers will be able to do a remote wipe of a stolen or lost unit. Buzz users will have nothing to configure, as soon as you connect it is done automatically.
