NAVIGON today celebrates the first anniversary of its iPhone navigation app, MobileNavigator, in the iTunes App Store. In year one, NAVIGON’s iPhone app transformed more than 1 million iPhones around the world into standalone navigation devices, placing the app in number one billing spots on iTunes Top Grossing, Staff Favorites, Rewind 2009 lists, and in Apple advertising campaigns. NAVIGON celebrates its anniversary with a 50 percent discount for four days only (August 12-15) on NAVIGON’s Australian MobileNavigator app and most other country versions. The In App Purchase feature Panorama View 3D is also half price during this period.

NAVIGON brings over 19 years of experience to the navigation market and to developing for the iPhone platform. With each app update, the German based company set new standards for the iPhone navigation market, making it the most feature rich navigation application on the iPhone platform today. Feature highlights and milestones of MobileNavigator include first to market features such as Reality View Pro?, providing photographic images of complex highway interchanges and exits and Clever Parking, helping drivers to find parking options nearby. MobileNavigator also integrates the iPhones connectivity capabilities with connected, in-app services like Google Local Search, live weather information and Connection to Facebook and Twitter. The In App Purchase Panorama View 3D provides impressive 3D views of the environment using NASA elevation data. NAVIGON MyRoutes takes personalised route recommendations to a new level with intelligent, customised direction planning by analysing individual driving data to design customised directions, offering up to three choices with distance and ETA that are clearly displayed in-map for each.

NAVIGON MobileNavigator is on-board and saves the complete map material within the phone. The app relies on the GPS receiver, independent from a cell or wireless signal, providing directions and recalculations even when no cell phone signal is available.

Price
To kick off its second year in the App Store, NAVIGON is celebrating for four days (August 12-15) with a half-price promotion for The Australian MobileNavigator App. The In App Purchase option Panorama View 3D is also 50 percent off.

Applications
MobileNavigator Australia: $44.99 instead of $89.99.
In-App Purchases
Panorama View 3D: $7.49 instead of $14.99

MobileNavigator 1.6.0 is compatible with iPhone 4, 3GS and 3G. The App also runs on first generation iPhone and iPod Touch, but third party accessories for GPS reception are required for these devices. iOS4 multitasking is supported by the iPhone 4 and 3GS only.

Well… I don’t think so, while RIM is reported to be gaining some marketshares away from the iPhone, it is still too soon to declare a winner, this is the second major upgrade for the iPhone while the Blackberry has suffered a dozen or more. It is important to notice that the iPhone that can give RIM some headaches, because is packed with the same or even more business features, those that have helped Blackberry become the king.

Apple has set its sight on the Enterprise and has promised features what will help Apple master this new and complicated market and put some pressure to RIM at the same time.

There is excitement among developers and major corporations are starting to realize that the iPhone is more than another smartphone, it is a platform, some have commited to bring the most compelling suit of applications to meet any business need. IBM, Sun, NetSuite, Salesforce, even Microsoft has been babbling about the possibility of an Office version for the iphone.

Styletap is promising Palm emulation on the iphone, increasing automatically the numbers of business applications available for the device.

So, if we were to declare a winner, there is not better time than the next June 9th, when we will see what Apple has been planning for the iPhone 2.0 and how Blackberry and others response to Apple entrance into the Mobile.

iPass today announced service availability for Windows Mobile 6 devices. Users of the iPass Mobile Office service for enterprises and iPassConnect™ mobility service for individuals can now connect to the Internet via Wi-Fi using their Windows Mobile 6 smartphone and handheld devices. iPass plans to support the Apple iPhone and iPod Touch later this year and intends to support Wi-Fi-enabled Blackberry devices as well.

“The popularity of consumer-driven handheld devices changes the paradigm for enterprise IT by allowing people to be productive using Web-based applications through their own smartphone” said Joel Wachtler, VP of marketing and strategy at iPass. “IT cannot ignore these devices, and instead must ensure that workers can be productive using them and that they don’t create an unreasonable burden for the business through expensive connectivity, poor security, or high support costs. iPass’ mission is to simplify the growing complexity of enterprise mobility, and expanding support to these platforms is a key element of our strategy”

With more than 100,000 business-class hotspots worldwide, (also announced today), iPass Wi-Fi connectivity gives smart phone users a high performance, inexpensive alternative to 2.5G and 3G access provided by cellular providers. For international business travelers, the cost savings can be especially significant when they use Wi-Fi to avoid the high roaming fees mobile operators charge for out-of-country usage. In one recent, well-publicized incident*, a UK-based smartphone user was billed more than $22 thousand dollars by their cellular provider for downloading large data files in Germany.

In addition, the iPass Wi-Fi network can deliver broadband access in places where 3G doesn’t reach. Because 3G networks are normally rolled out first in metropolitan areas, those outside the city must often rely on modem-like 2.5G technology, or may have no cellular data coverage at all. Even in large cities, high-speed coverage isn’t ubiquitous. Tests conducted by industry analyst and wireless benchmarking firm Novarum show that true 3G connections are available only 60-70% of the time in major U.S. urban centers, due to hills, trees and other obstacles to reception. Lastly, 3G performance can degrade rapidly when in-building, and in these cases it may be the local Wi-Fi hotspot or WLAN that provides the only viable Internet access option.

More about iPass Support for Windows Mobile 6
With iPass, both consumer and enterprise users can get one-click access to the world’s leading Wi-Fi hotspot network, covering high-value business locations including hundreds of airports, hotels such as Hyatt, Hilton and Marriott; and retail locations including Starbucks coffeehouses and McDonald’s restaurants. They can also connect easily to home, corporate and 3rd-party wireless networks, with iPass service auto-detecting available Wi-Fi networks in their area and automatically connecting to their bookmarked locations.

Enterprise customers can obtain the following additional benefits:

A single monthly flat rate based on active users in a company, helping customers avoid paying for idle users or having runaway charges from heavy users
No international roaming charges—iPass Wi-Fi locations are available through a global flat rate plan with no additional fees
Support for iPass Mobile Office mobile device management functions that operate over the Internet
Pricing and Availability
iPass support for Windows Mobile 6 is now available. Use of Windows Mobile handhelds in the Mobile Office service is priced at a flat monthly rate for the enterprise based on the number of active users. For individuals in the United States looking for a subscription to the iPassConnect mobility service, pricing information is available at: www.ipassconnect.com.

iAno (ianus in spanish) is a tremendous, amazing iphone and ipod touch application that turns it (iphone – ipod touch) into a virtual piano with an excellent sound. iAno provides good features to keep rolling your music needs:

A complete four octave keyboard.
Multi-touch. Up to 5 keys can be pressed at once allowing complex chords.
Sounds like a real piano with realistic piano multi-samples.
Animated piano keys react to your touch.
Play along to all your MP3s.
On-screen keyboard navigation allows you to easily move up and down by octaves or “part octaves” (ie. left-most key is a C or an F).

Video Demo

Get iAnos here

How to install
First you need to jailbreak your iPhone to allow third-party applications to be installed.
Add the “ModMyiFone.com” repository to your Installer.
Click on the Installer Icon.
Click on the “Sources” icon at the bottom.
Click “Edit”.
Click “Add”.
Enter: “http://modmyifone.com/installer.xml”.
Click “OK”.
iAno will appear under the “Toys” section of installer.

But iAno is not totally done, the creator is announcing future features in development:

Navigation
The top bar will show the entire keyboard, with the current octave highlit, you can click on this bar to change octaves. This will mean you can jump around the piano keyboard much easier, and can visualise where you are. It will also help when the number of keys increases to a full keyboard.

Sound
It will contain a full 88 key piano keyboard with each key individually sampled in stereo from a grand piano.
The sound engine will be modified to give a local volume setting, and potentially deaden the sound on key-up to allow for playback of notes with varying lengths of sustain.

Other Instruments
Switchable between different piano types such as “honky tonk”. Note that non-piano sounds are going to be part of a separate app.

Recording and Playback
The ability to record and playback, so that you could record one part of a duet and then play over the top of it.

The ability to save and load recorded songs.
The ability to load / convert existing MIDI files into songs to play back. This will mean you can export your song into MIDI, load it into some editting package on your desktop, and correct your mistakes. Also you’ll be able to convert some horribly complex classical piece into iAno format and then claim you played it live.
