iPhone MAME emulator MAME is strictly a non-profit project. Its main purpose is to be a reference to the inner workings of the emulated arcade machines. This is done both for educational purposes and for preservation purposes, in order to prevent many historical games from disappearing forever once the hardware they run on stops working. Of course, in order to preserve the games and demonstrate that the emulated behavior matches the original, you must also be able to actually play the games. This is considered a nice side effect, and is not MAME's primary focus. It is not our intention to infringe on any copyrights or patents on the original games. All of MAME's source code is either our own or freely available. To operate, the emulator requires images of the original ROMs, CDs, or hard disks from the arcade machines, which must be provided by the user. Safari was plagued by some security bugs that could harm your mac or windows pc, but there are not reports of bad things, the update affects the following bugs and it is recommended for all safari users: Safari 3.1.1 Safari CVE-ID: CVE-2007-2398 Available for: Windows XP or Vista Impact: A maliciously crafted website may control the contents of the address bar Description: A timing issue in Safari 3.1 allows a web page to change the contents of the address bar without loading the contents of the corresponding page. This could be used to spoof the contents of a legitimate site, allowing user credentials or other information to be gathered. This issue was addressed in Safari Beta 3.0.2, but reintroduced in Safari 3.1. This update addresses the issue by restoring the address bar contents if a request for a new web page is terminated. Enabling hiragana katakana kanji on the iphone (japanese iphone keyboard)

Here is a really quick and rough tutorial for enabling the Japanese keyboard on your iPhone, which allows you to type in hiragana, katakana, and kanji. For some reason, even though there is rumor that the iPhone will be making its way sometime not too far from now to Japan, the Japanese language keyboard is not enabled on the device, though its functionality is clearly working and arguably ready to go. (Thanks to the info http://web.mac.com/mac_scott/ and some others for getting me the necessary steps to get this working.) This assumes that you aren’t afraid to get your hand a little dirty with some command line action on your iPhone. I also claim no responsibility for what *may* happen when performing this task. I’m not sure what damage you could do if things get ugly, so proceed with caution. This addresses the problem that I ran into, wherein I cannot login to the Term-vt100 app for the iPhone, so I had to get creative about how to change a file to enable the Japanese keyboard. ePSXe is a Sony Playstation emulator. It has a good compatibility rate and runs very fast. It is also very flexible as it uses a plugin system for sound and graphics and can also support original playstation controllers (using a special adaptor). I have only recently started to use ePSXe as I normally use Bleem, however I have found out that ePSXe has alot less glitches and is updated far more regularly so I have switched over completely. I thought long and hard over this tutorial as I knew it would be difficult to write as there are alot of options in ePSXe. Because of the amount of options I found that it is sometimes difficult to put the technical jargon into plain english but I think I have. I hope you like the results. StyleTap to bring Palm emulation to the iPhone and iPod Touch

StyleTap, the company that develops a Palm OS environment for Windows Mobile devices, has posted a video of an experimental version of StyleTap running on a iPod Touch. According to the company, the video is more of a proof of concept and not an actual product at this time. StyleTap is also not saying definitively whether or not they will release a official version. In the video the Touch is shown running a variety of native Palm OS applications. Bobby Chew, a developer for StyeTap says "This experimental version can run ARMlets and because of the screen size, uses hi-res (double density) bitmaps and fonts. If Apple's security and application installation and distribution scheme isn't too restrictive, it looks like StyleTap will be able to run the same applications on the iPhone/Touch, Symbian and Windows Mobile/CE platforms." Since there is no Apple approved method at this time to install any outside applications on its mobile devices, it is likely any release would have to wait until Apple releases their official iPhone/Touch SDK. Yahoo! News: Nano-fibers could power your iPod

US researchers have created a nano-fiber textile that harvests energy from movement, paving the way for clothing that could one day power an iPod or other wearable electronic devices, according to a study published Wednesday. Using the same mechanical principle as a self-winding watch, but on scale measured in billionths of a meter, tiny nano-generators can scavenge "wasted" energy from sound waves, vibrations, or even the human heart beat. The fibers, developed by a team of scientists at the Georgia Institute of Technology led by Zhong Lin Wang, are covered with pairs of zinc oxide nanowires that produce tiny pulses of electricity in response to friction. "The two fibers scrub together just like two bottle brushes with their bristles touching," converting the mechanical motion into electrical energy, explained Wang. Via Yahoo! News

News.com: China Mobile running 400,000 unlocked iPhones

As many as 400,000 unlocked iPhones were running on China Mobile's cellular network at the end of last year, according to market research firm In-Stat. Apple sold 3.7 million iPhones in 2007, and more than 10 percent of them are in China, In-Stat said, attributing that information to China Mobile. That helps explain part of the "iPhone gap" created by the difference between Apple's shipping totals for 2007 and the activations reported by its carrier partners in the U.S. and Europe. Somewhere around 1 million iPhones are thought to have been unlocked, and 400,000 are in China. Despite Apple's attempts to keep iPhone unlocking under wraps with new software and changes to the iPhone's bootloader, enterprising entrepreneurs are apparently giving the people what they want. This is a bit of an opportunity lost for Apple, since the company has signed lucrative revenue-sharing deals with its carrier partners that don't apply if an iPhone is unlocked from its respective network.
