Things that make you go ummm!: Is Apple slowly killing Firewire?

Apple has been the front runner when it comes in new technology adoptions, we all saw the first imac introduction of the USB, the floppy, the dvd burner, firewire, wifi and many other time saving features. But what really strikes me is the almost abandonment of the Firewire technology. Firewire has ben the perfect high-speed communication interface, it manage to move real-time data from cameras to computers or from DVD to TV, but we have seen or heard nothing new about this great technology, it must being growing out of the computer space, but even in the electronic segment there is nothing about Firewire... Did Firewire reach the bottom? Maybe not, but the most prominent sponsor of Firewire was Apple and we have seen how Macs come without Firewire at all. Apple we need a Macbook Mini

While you can get a refurbished Macbook for $900, it is too much for a vast majory of pc users willing to change to mac, an Eee Pc is about $399.99, loaded with Windows and ready to rumble, with this price point, there is not space for Apple to compete or maybe the margin is too small that doing so will be a waste of time. Apple can create a new line of Macbook (the Macbook Mini), a $600 subnotebook loaded with features that provide a better experience, dual booting by default (Bootcamp installed), so Windows users will need to install their favorite Windows version. The new Mini laptop must be aimed a young students that can carry it everywhere, drop it, scratch it, paint it and make whatever they decide and the machine still works, something like the eMate, call it a UMPC if you want, but it must be small, cheaper and must come with mac os x installed, wifi, 3g, bluetooth and touchscreen. iPass to provie Wi-fi conectivity for Windows Mobile 6, iPhone and Blackberry

iPass today announced service availability for Windows Mobile 6 devices. Users of the iPass Mobile Office service for enterprises and iPassConnect™ mobility service for individuals can now connect to the Internet via Wi-Fi using their Windows Mobile 6 smartphone and handheld devices. iPass plans to support the Apple iPhone and iPod Touch later this year and intends to support Wi-Fi-enabled Blackberry devices as well. "The popularity of consumer-driven handheld devices changes the paradigm for enterprise IT by allowing people to be productive using Web-based applications through their own smartphone" said Joel Wachtler, VP of marketing and strategy at iPass.
