Android is hit, there is not doubts and eventually will continue is meteoric ascension taking marketshare from Nokia, Rim and the iPhone, why not, It’s been embraced by the bigger mobile phone vendors that have been pushing for a real alternative to the iPhone, some of them have failed to gain traction using Windows Mobile or their respective mobile OS.

Android has been extended to almost any mobile brands, except for RIM, Nokia and Apple and ported to tablets or any other mobile device in a desperated attempt to fend off the already popular iPad, but while Android may enjoys strong sales for phone makers, none of them individually have garnered the iPhone mass appeal with their devices, it’s well notice that Android marketshare is actually bigger than iOS if We combine sales from all vendors and it will continue to grow at the iPhone expense.

But fragmentation and too many iterations of the same OS will make more difficult...

Something extraordinary is happening in heaven, Microsoft and Dell, the stronger combination of software and hardware, a match that has more than 90% of the personal computer marketshare, the most profitable and business oriented companies in the whole world have started to feel the cruel reality, both companies are (haven’t been) not attractive to young men/women, this situation has forced both (Microsoft and Dell) to launch almost at the same time, a campaign to help young students the real benefits of buying their next computers from Dell loaded with Windows 7, from Microsoft.

There is nothing strange in this advertising campaign if Microsoft and Dell weren’t the Big Daddy of the technology sector, but real numbers and recent market researches put Dell and Microsoft in a disadvantage, a cruel reality that is taking Dell and Microsoft sleep. Young students prefer macs laptops over apparently cheaper Dell laptops (in some countries cheaper = bad quality).

Dell launched the Back to School Apples to Apples comparison where it compares every mac against a cheaper Dell, but why would Dell do that? Is Dell feeling the heat? or Is the Mac taking marketshare from Dell that it needs to stop the hemorrhage? Come on Dell, how could you compare a Mac with your PCs? Weren’t Dell found guilty of selling PCs with 97% failure rate? I don’t really understand how Dell, a company “bigger than Apple” with “better PCs” is waisting its time and resources comparing itself with Apple? Come on Dell. Dell intelligently enough only compared the superficial and didn’t compared its pcs feature by feature against the macs.

Visit Dell Back to School Apples to Apples comparison page here.

Visit Microsoft PC vs Mac page here.

And… Microsoft, the biggest, better almighty Microsoft, cornered in the back of the technology yard, burning millions of shareholders money trying to capture every market, Microsoft is losing, slowly but losing, the PC war, a war that Steve Jobs conceded to Microsoft, now the whole war is turning too much to the software giant. Here Microsoft is trying to help PC makers, with an “I am a PC” campaign that is a total shame, a campaign ripped from the “I am a Mac” from Apple and turned into a vulgar and poorly managed PR disaster.

How came these two of the Biggest and Better companies in the world to start a defensive campaign against the small (in marketshare) Apple.

Do they (Microsoft/Dell) know something that We already knew for years?

Or Did Microsoft foget that Mac can run Windows and all its applications? Somebody please send those two companies the memo.

Microsoft Office for Mac 2011, the next version of the leading productivity suite for the Mac, will be available in more than 100 countries around the world at the end of October. The suite will come in two editions to purchase at retail — Office for Mac Home and Student 2011 and Office for Mac Home and Business 2011. For better alignment across platforms, the Office 2011 pricing and edition options map closer with Office for the Windows operating system. In addition, starting today, if customers purchase Office 2008 for Mac, they will be able to upgrade to Office 2011 when it is available at no additional cost through the Microsoft Office for Mac Technology Guarantee Program.

The new Office 2011 lineup makes purchasing decisions easier — with a lower price per installation for all editions. These changes ensure that customers get the right products and applications at the right price.

Microsoft Office for Mac Home and Student 2011 includes Word for Mac, PowerPoint for Mac, Excel for Mac and Messenger for Mac, and it will retail starting at $119 (U.S. estimated retail price [ERP]).

• It will be available in two editions — a single install for $119 (U.S. ERP) and a Family Pack for $149 (U.S. ERP) with three installs for families with more than one Mac in their household. The Home and Student edition provides the core productivity applications that Mac users want and need.
Microsoft Office for Mac Home and Business 2011 includes Word for Mac, PowerPoint for Mac, Excel for Mac, Outlook for Mac and Messenger for Mac, and it will retail starting at $199 (U.S. ERP).

• It also will be available in two editions — a single install for $199 (U.S. ERP) and a Multi-Pack for $279 (U.S. ERP) with two installs for a user with two machines. If Home and Student customers determine that they need the additional functionality of a desktop e-mail client, they can easily step up to Office for Mac Home and Business 2011using online upgrade functionality.
Microsoft Office for Mac Academic 2011 includes Word for Mac, PowerPoint for Mac, Excel for Mac, Outlook for Mac and Messenger for Mac, and it will retail at authorized academic stores and Microsoft, http://www.officeformac.com, for $99 (U.S. ERP).

• This special edition was created for higher education students, staff and faculty, and includes one installation.
What Languages Will Office 2011 Be Available In?

Office 2011 will be available in 13 languages, including Danish, Dutch, English, Finnish, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Norwegian, Spanish and Swedish. The MacBU worked to expand the global accessibility of Office 2011 and is adding two new languages — Polish and Russian. The suite will be available in several regions in late October with continued availability through the rest of the year. A complete list of country-specific availability will be disclosed in late October.

When the first Apple iPhone hit the market, it was largely targeted at the consumer market. When the iPhone 3G came along, it added Exchange support and some other doo-dahs that made it little more business-friendly. Well, it’s about to take the next leap. While the iPhone 3G is still lacking in the copy-and-paste department, it will soon be able to create, edit, and send a variety of Microsoft Office files via Documents To Go. You may recognize the Documents to Go name from its BlackBerry, Palm, Windows Mobile, and Symbian incarnations and now it’s getting ready for the iPhone too.

Microsoft’s Silverlight might soon be on the G1 and the iPhone. It seems like Microsoft isn’t wasting any time in its battle with Adobe when it comes to the company’s Flash technology competitor, Silverlight.

Microsoft is reportedly very interested in pushing Silverlight on Apple’s devices. But it’s well known that Apple ultimately controls what software runs on the iPhone – so good luck Microsoft. However, the story is quite different when it comes to the G1

Since the introduction of the Apple iPhone on January the 9th, the world has gone touch pad crazy, touch pad technology is the way of the future and many companies have heard the call and made their own touch pad phones in direct competition with the iPod. Now is touchscreen, the iPhone has its own mobile category (The iPhone Killer), almost all manufacturers realize that if they want to sell their smartphones they should label them as “iphone killer”, it is not enough to have a full featured smartphone if is not a iphone killer and everyday you see how desperate they are just adding touchscreen to make their devices look like an iphone instead of adding new features.

Check the list and make your bets, I believe that the only smartphone that will push down the iphone is another iphone.

1. Samsung F700

Coming in at Number 1 is the Samsung F700 ultra slim phone, answering the call early Samsung have come up with a splendid touch pad phone. Main features of the phone include a 5 megapixel camera, touch pad technology, impressive downloads speeds of up to 7.2 Mbps and a cool slide out QWERTY Keyboard, which is something the iPhone is lacking. With their first deluge into touch pad phones Samsung seem to have hit a home run straight of the bat.

2. LG KE850 | Prada

The next touchphone coming in at a close Second is the LG KE850, this touch phone has actually been around for quite some time and is a smash hit in South Korea. It is widely believed amongst industry experts Apple based there design model around this phone. The phone features a 3-inch LCD touch screen display and 2 megapixel camera. The phone will be about $750. Any maybe available in Europe and America soon.

3. Nokia Aeon Concept Phone

At Number Three we see the Nokia Aeon Concept Phone. This phone is just a concept phone and not currently available to the consumer, it has been around for a very long time. Obviously Nokia was onto to touch phone technology from the very early stages, their long term research and studying into the technology, may see them if not in the form of the Aeon bring out a very advanced touch phone some time soon that will be available to consumers. If that happens you could probably elevated Nokia to Number Two iPhone competitor on this list.

4. Neonode N2 TouchScreen

Surprisingly at Number Four is unknown Swedish phone the Neonode N2 TouchScreen. This awesome little phone made it’s debut at 3GSM and plans to take it right up to the iPhone in a big way. Cool features include it’s size factor, it is alot smaller than other touchscreen phones which should make it easier to carry around than most other touch phones and also it features an interesting gesture controlled screen and runs off of an open source platform.

5. OpenMoko Neo1973

The OpenMoko Neo1973 has been dubbed the iPhone killer and it is hard to disagree it has some awesome features, such as a large, touch-sensitive VGA display, GPRS data, Bluetooth, 128MB RAM, AGPS (Assisted GPS), and 64MB of Flash. The best thing about this phone is that it is a open source project and anyone can contribute to making it into a great phone.

6. Asus Aura Concept Phone

At Six is another concept phone the Asus Aura Concept Phone. ASUS is mostly known for making computer parts and motherboards, however over the past year or so ASUS have tried there hand at making Cell Phones and their not doing to bad a job of it either. ASUS’s strategy is to make as many phones as possible in the hope that one will become a hit, there is not a day that goes by without ASUS releasing a new phone. This month they responded to iPhones call and made the Asus Aura Touch screen Phone, like the Samsung F700 this phone has a QWERTY keypad, features a 2-megapixel camera, 3.9-inch touch screen display and is only 9mm thick. Everyone better watch out for these guys they are a massive manufacturer and they are starting to make their mark in the cell phone industry, specially in countries outside of the US.

7. FIC-GTA001

The Linux based FIC-GTA001 smartphone fights it way to the Number 7 spot and actually comes bundled with a SDK (Software Development Kit). Sporting a 2.8-inch VGA display and
having nifty features like; multi-touch sensor recognition, GSM, GPS and MP3 playback capabilities, its no mystery why we think the phone is cool! The FIC-GTA001 draws it juice from a Samsung ARM9-based processor and the two finger scrolling is reminiscent of the Macbook.

8. BenQ-Siemens Black Box Concept Phone

Big on design but lacking in features, the BenQ-Siemens Black Box Concept Phone comes in at Number Eight. This phone is just a concept phone. BenQ is trying to make a impact in Asia cell phone market. This phones lacks all the cool functions the above phones have and just really has a nice design and big touch screen. Apple has nothing to worry about with this one.

9. Meizu M8

At Nine is the Chinese only Meizu M8 which is also known as the miniOne. It’s claim to fame and the reason why is it so well known in the tech world is because it is believed that this company knocked off the iPhones design. They plan to confuse the Chinese market and cash in big time by selling the phone on the cheap in China, which is just wrong, really wrong.

10. Sagem WA 3050

We searched everywhere but couldn’t find a tenth touch phone. There is sure to be another one soon, any help would be appreciated. We just couldn’t hold off on posting this awesome article any longer .

So thats it. This is only just the beginning of the Touchpad Phone revolution. The companies above have all heard the call and acted fast on this new phenomena. LG, Apple and Samsung in particular are in good positions to capitalize on early on sales of touch phones and establish themselves. Don’t expect Sony, Nokia or Motorola to stay on the side lines for too long, they will come out with their own touchpad phones soon no doubt. 2007 is looking like the “Year Of The Touch Pad Phone!”

Touchphone technology is not new, it has be evolving for several years. Believe it or not Micorsoft were the first makers of a touchpad phone, back in the year 2000 they made the Sagem WA 3050.

11. Blackberry Bold

The Blackberry Bold is an sleek designed full featured smartphone that provides everything that corporate users will need while on the road, it has a ultra powerfull processor, georgeous display, full qwerty keyboard and works on 3G networks, something that all iphone users are expecting in the next iPhone OS 2.0. While the Bold’s design is similar to the iphone it main target remain at corporations.

12. Blackberry Thunder (Touchscreen smartphone)

The Blackberry Thunder will be launch in Q3 of this year, it is a full touchscreen Blackberry with no slide out keyboard. It comes with just 4 physical keys for Send/End, the Menu key and the Back key. There is not much information available, but it is rumoured to be a CDMA EV-DO device with a 4G implementation.

It is the real Blackberry threat to the iPhone and it will come with a more powerfull processor than the Bold and all the multimedia features and corporate stuff that RIM supplies.

13. Nokia N95

Terry Myerson, corporate vice president for Exchange, talks to PressPass about the importance of the new agreement between Microsoft and Apple to offer built-in support for Exchange on the iPhone, and the increasing popularity of Microsoft Exchange Server 2007 among mobile professionals.
People today depend on being able to stay in touch no matter how close or how far away they are from the office or home.
For businesses, that means a host of challenges to make sure their communications foundation is secure, reliable and accessible across many mobile devices – from notebooks to PDAs and smartphones.

Microsoft has been helping companies overcome those challenges and streamline their communications infrastructure with Microsoft Exchange Server 2007, and the popularity of Exchange Server 2007 among corporations has influenced many mobile device makers to support Exchange right out of the box.

Today, Apple announced it plans to join the list of mobile device makers that offer built-in support for Exchange mobile e-mail, licensing Microsoft Exchange ActiveSync for the iPhone.

To get some context around this announcement, PressPass spoke with Terry Myerson, corporate vice president for Exchange.

PressPass: What are some of the details around today’s announcement?
Myerson: We’re happy that Apple is adding the iPhone to the growing number of mobile devices that connect with Exchange Server. As part of a business agreement with Microsoft, Apple will build Microsoft Exchange ActiveSync into the iPhone – making it possible for iPhone owners to access Exchange and take advantage of its secure mobile communications features.

PressPass: Why is it important for iPhone to support Exchange?
Myerson: More and more companies are turning to Exchange Server 2007 as the foundation for a reliable and secure communications platform. At the same time, there are more mobile devices coming to market that are popular for both personal and professional use. The Apple iPhone is one of those popular devices that now join the long list of smartphones able to connect to Exchange. This is one of those win-win propositions in that it helps us serve iPhone users, and it helps Apple serve the needs of the enterprise. It is also a testament to the innovation taking place at Microsoft, and the value our IP brings to the entire ecosystem.

PressPass: This announcement has been widely rumored for a while now. How is it that two rivals like Microsoft and Apple can come together on such a big announcement?

Myerson: People like to think Microsoft and Apple are at opposite ends of the technology spectrum, but despite the perception of a Microsoft-Apple rivalry, today’s announcement is actually one in a long history of cooperation between the two companies.

We started talking with Apple about licensing Exchange ActiveSync before the launch of the iPhone last year. In fact, I met with Apple Senior Vice President of Worldwide Product Marketing Phil Schiller almost daily for a period of two weeks ironing out the details of the agreement. The result is a true collaboration between Microsoft and Apple.

We continue to compete with Apple in the computer arena and media player business. When it comes to mobile phones, Windows Mobile still delivers the premier mobile e-mail experience for Microsoft Exchange Server, by delivering the Outlook experience on a mobile phone and with the most complete support for Exchange’s many enterprise device management policies. But, we also partner with many mobile device makers – including Apple – and believe that by making Exchange an open platform, our customers and partners, ultimately, will be the beneficiaries.
Overall however, Microsoft knows cooperation and collaboration among diverse companies – from technology to hardware to content providers is becoming more commonplace. In today’s world, open innovation and collaboration is simply smart business; in tomorrow’s, it will be an absolute necessity.

PressPass: How does Exchange ActiveSync connect mobile devices to Exchange?
Myerson: Early on – with Exchange Server 2003 – we recognized there was no cohesive solution for sharing information and communications securely over the air. We set out to innovate around that and the result was Exchange ActiveSync. Exchange ActiveSync enables a mobile phone to synchronize email, calendars, tasks, and contacts with Exchange Server over the air. We wanted to make sure Exchange ActiveSync was compatible with as many mobile devices as possible, so we built it on an open platform. Apple joins Motorola, Nokia, Palm, Sony Ericsson, Symbian and many others that license Exchange ActiveSync for mobile devices. Thanks to Microsoft’s open platform and broad technology licensing program, more than 170 smartphones come ready for Exchange Server mobile e-mail out of the box today.

PressPass: Who benefits the most from this announcement?
Myerson: We believe all mobile professionals and corporations benefit. After the iPhone launched, it quickly became one of the best selling phones on the market, but enterprises were banning the device from their networks for several reasons, chief among them being the lack of support for Exchange Server. According to Gartner, Exchange Server is used in 43 percent of enterprises – and based on Microsoft data, we estimate that 81 of Fortune 100 companies, along with millions of users, use Exchange as their primary messaging and calendaring platform. When it comes to wireless email, enterprise adoption continues to grow, and more and more businesses are choosing Exchange Server for their mobile messaging solutions.

PressPass: What are some of the features iPhone users can expect with Exchange ActiveSync built-in?
Myerson: Our goal with Exchange ActiveSync was to create an open solution that lets mobile device makers pick and choose the kinds of features they want to activate. In other words, it’s really up to Apple what features they want to support in iPhone. That said, Apple has a wide range of features they can provide iPhone users to take advantage of Exchange Server’s rich communications platform. For example, by licensing Exchange ActiveSync, Apple can build a wireless e-mail client on iPhone that synchronizes e-mail, calendars, tasks and contacts with Exchange Server over the air. Apple also has the option to enable features that allow businesses to manage the iPhone through security policies in Exchange Server 2007, including remotely wiping all data from a lost or stolen iPhone, and requiring security provisions for email such as a password and pin access. These are important features that more and more companies depend on Exchange Server to deliver – and that iPhone owners now have the opportunity to experience for themselves.

Today Microsoft chairman and mastermind, Bill Gates, announced that the software giant is giving away million of dollars in developer applications with a new iniciative called DreamSpark, which will provide professional software tools available at no charge to high school and university students worldwide. Wow, good software samaritan, we all love Microsoft, we really do.

The problem here is that for Microsoft it is nothing more than another Netscape, why? See it this way, why on earth would you like to give away professional softwares at not charge if in the end you won’t end up earning twice what you have already given? It is an investment and giving away those applications only hurts the Microsoft competition. This time is Adobe, which Microsoft chose as its favorite enemy.

Adobe and Microsfot danced a Tango for a very long time, the Tango is an amazing dance, where you must do your best to harmoniously orchestrate the must beautiful movements, the Tango ended being a disgraceful dance and Microsoft has decided to step in Adobe turf, competing directly with Adobe hardcore applications.

To achieve this new attack Microsoft created and is intensively marketing, Expression Studio, Expression Web, Expression Blend, Expression Design and Expression Media.

Now those applications can be downloaded and used at not charge; would you buy Flash or Illustrator if you have something similar FREE? Not way. And this is where Adobe is going to be Netscaped and something must be done to avoid this. Adobe is a powerhouse, with tremendous resources, but can’t compete in a situation like this. It is like playing baseball against the owner of the Bat and the Ball, you can’t make a home run against him, this could terminate your game.

Lets wait for Adobe response to this matter, maybe we can get a free educational version of Adobe’s applications or maybe some anti trust lawsuits, why not, this is a very complicated situation, in one side is Microsoft helping young boys and girls around the world, but in the other end is Adobe losing ground with an iniciative that only helps Microsoft in the short and long term.
