Safari: The next major threat to Windows users or Feud?

Microsoft is reporting that certain bug in Apple Safari for Windows could mean security problems for Wndows users opening the door for attackers to run unauthorized softwares on a victim's computer. But the timing for this report is strange, this same week Net Applications reported that Safari has been gaining marketshare at Internet Explorer expense. Got it? Apple should investigate if the problem is in its camp or provide a quick fix to this threat, but Microsoft should tell Apple where is the real threat, if it is at Safari, Apple must solve it inmediately or if it is on the Platform, then Microsoft should provide what's needed, because a similar problem plague Internet Explorers for Windows XP and Vista and not fix is in place. Mac and Windows Users sharing the same Security Vulnerabilities

As part of its monthly "Patch Tuesday" schedule Microsoft has issued a number of bulletins about 12 security vulnerabilities in its software. Seven of the vulnerabilities affect Microsoft Excel, and could allow a hacker to gain remote control over a user's computer by a maliciously crafted spreadsheet. Alarmingly, the vulnerability is not just found in the Windows version of Microsoft Excel, but also for Mac Office 2004 and the recently released Office 2008 for Macintosh. Experts note that the Excel flaws were discovered in January, and recommends that organizations roll-out the patches as a matter of urgency, as some of them could enable hackers to access data on a vulnerable PC or Macintosh, or run malicious code such as a worm. "Windows users may be fairly accustomed to installing patches from Microsoft -- but this a timely reminder that Apple Mac users need to be just as diligent when it comes to matters of computer security," said Graham Cluley, senior technology consultant at Sophos. Dell is changing lanes again, killed the Mall kiosks

As Dell’s Global Consumer business continues to evolve, the company today announced that it will close its 140 kiosks in the United States. The Dell Direct Store model, which began in 2002, enabled customers to touch and feel Dell products before purchasing systems direct from the company. Microsoft Office 2008 for Mac: a first look

After a series of delays, Microsoft plans to release Office for Mac 2008 to brick-and-mortar and online stores on January 15, making this the first update in about four years. We've tested beta versions of the new applications over the last month without running into glitches. Office for Mac includes Word, Excel for spreadsheets, PowerPoint for presentations and Entourage for email and time management. There's no Microsoft Access database application for the Mac, although FileMaker's upcoming release of Bento offers Mac users a new choice. Unlike Microsoft Office 2007, the interface changes don't look radically foreign next to the 2004 edition. That's good news for anyone who doesn't want to relearn the locations of common functions. The 2007 applications for Windows arrange functions within tabs, while the 2008 Mac software largely clusters functions within the same drop-down menus including File, Edit and View. By and large, most of the changes focus on attempting to help users craft more attractive documents. For instance, Office for Mac features the same templates and Smart Art graphics as the Windows counterparts, including 3D and translucent designs. We all know that with Windows Vista Microsoft lose the orientation and turned it into another Windows Me. Microsoft spent 5 years creating the most advanced Operating System in decades, sophisticated filesystem, new interface and a long list of features enought to create two OSes, but something happened in the way to heaven and the system suffered some delays, features cut and ended up being a Windows Me Light, nothing resembles in Vista to what they promised. Bungie departing from Microsoft…. or a new Profit Strategy

I supposed that Microsoft bought Bungie, wasn't Bungie merged into Microsoft? There is 3 things to notice here: The first one is: The Xbox could suffers if it is true, then Microsoft won't have a good games on its own, Halo was the only game that really attracted fans to the Xbox. The second one, and this is what I believe is the true about this news, is that Microsoft isn't making enough money on the Xbox even with the Halo franchise, so somebody inside recommended to drop this news and make everybody believes it, I think they want to start making games for Xbox, Playstation and Nintendo, searching for a profit. It would be IMPOSSIBLE for a Microsoft unit to make games for Playstation or Nintendo, it will tell analysts in Wall Street that they are losing more money than reported and could look as a desperated move. Third one, if Bungie is running away from Microsoft, I suppose that we are going to see more mac games and maybe Apple decided to jump on the game. Please this news can't be taken seriously until Microsoft announces it officially. - whataboutmac
